Position Overview

The ideal Platform Engineer is someone who is an Azure-heavy Cloud/DevOps Engineer with a strong IT foundation who understands operations, automation, CI/CD, and cloud architecture, can improve systems pragmatically, works well in a small team, and isn’t afraid to both design solutions and roll up their sleeves when needed. Someone who actively looks for ways to improve systems and workflows, can suggest realistic, workable changes, automates where appropriate (not over-engineering), understands hard change control processes and follows them properly. Someone who has a strong foundational IT background ideally progressed from Sys Admin → Troubleshooting → Engineering → Cloud/DevOps and understands how infrastructure pieces fit together, day-to-day operational realities, real-world problem-solving, not just “happy path” builds.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Serve as an Azure-heavy Cloud/DevOps Engineer, owning day-to-day cloud operations, reliability, continuous improvement, design, implement and maintain Azure cloud infrastructure to support production and development in a fully Azure-based environment.
  • Design, support, and optimize cloud infrastructure and application platforms, ensuring availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Build, maintain, and continuously improve CI/CD pipelines, enabling reliable and repeatable deployments across environments.
  • Implement and enhance automation to reduce manual effort and operational risk, applying a pragmatic approach and avoiding unnecessary over-engineering.
  • Partner closely with development teams to support application delivery, troubleshoot issues, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop and support Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), assisting with updates, improvements, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Apply a strong understanding of cloud architecture, networking, security, and identity, including how infrastructure components fit together in real-world environments.
  • Diagnose and resolve production issues using a hands-on, troubleshooting-first mindset, addressing both root cause and long-term prevention.
  • Participate in change management processes, following established controls, documentation, and approvals to ensure safe and compliant system changes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows, and operational practices, proposing practical, workable solutions that align with business needs.
  • Support a small, collaborative Cloud Ops team, willingly assisting with operational tasks when needed and contributing to shared ownership of the environment.
  • Maintain operational hygiene and platform health, including occasional cleanup and optimization work, even when tasks fall outside core engineering initiatives.
  • Establish and maintain monitoring, logging and alerting systems to ensure platform reliability and performance
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and optimize Azure resources and workloads to improve efficiency
  • Efficiently script and automate using PowerShell, Azure CLI or Python
  • Ensure security, compliance and governance across cloud accounts, pipelines and infrastructure configurations
  • Implement and support container-based environments using Docker and Kubernetes

What You'll Need to Have:

  • Deep, hands-on Azure expertise in a fully cloud-based environment
  • This is an Azure-heavy role (100% cloud); candidates must have day-to-day operational ownership, not just Azure exposure.
  • Strong, hands-on experience with core Azure services, including:
  • Azure App Services
  • Azure Functions
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure SQL Database
  • Azure APIs / API integrations
  • Azure Virtual Networks (VNets)
  • Firewalls, Network Security Groups (NSGs), and identity & access group structures
  • Azure Cosmos DB (database-side understanding required)
  • Proven experience in an operations-first Cloud Engineer / DevOps role, with responsibility for:
  • Platform stability and reliability
  • Automation and environment hygiene
  • Strong experience designing, maintaining, and improving CI/CD pipelines, including:
  • Pipeline optimization
  • Deployment automation
  • Promotion of changes across environments
  • Hands-on experience using GitHub for source control and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Practical experience with Terraform, including:
  • Modifying, supporting, and improving existing Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Regular contribution (not necessarily full-time Terraform ownership)
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric
  • Expert-level mastery is not required; honest working knowledge and willingness to learn is expected.
  • Excellent communication skills and professional presence, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Cloud Ops, DevOps, and Development teams.
  • Motivated to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation
  • Windows Server and Linux Virtual Machine Administration
  • Azure Certifications preferred: Azure Solutions Architect, DevOps Eng, Azure Admin
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum teams
